Peter the Great Day in Kolomenskoye

Peter the Great Day was held at the Palace of the Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich in Kolomenskoye. The name of Peter I (the Great) was for a long time closely connected with Kolomenskoye, the favourite summer residence of his father, the Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich Romanov.

According to a legend written by Alexander Sumarokov, Russian poet and playwright, Peter the Great was born in the wooden palace built between 1660 and 1680 by order of Alexey Mikhailovich. Nowadays, the palace that the contemporaries called the eight wonder of the world is reconstructed in the southern part of the museum territory.

The first theatre appeared in Russia in the reign of Peter the Great’s father, and the Theatre Mansion has been created in the newly reconstructed palace for dramatized performances and concerts.
